“Rustavi” Concert - Georgian Music & Dance
Ensemble RustaviIn the context of "Georgia's Cultural Week" sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Monuments Protection and Sports of Georgia, and organized by the Embassy of Georgia to Spain in collaboration with the City of Madrid and the Friends of Georgia International Foundation, Madrid's Plaza Mayor served as the scene of a free outdoor concert performed by the Georgian group "Rustavi".
"The boundaries for the diffusion of Georgian culture are increasingly broad. It is the first time that Europe's oldest square, Plaza Mayor, where royal and knightly events took place centuries ago, installs a stage for Georgian artists" the Ministry said.
The event was chaired by the Minister of Culture, Monuments Protection and Sport of Georgia, Exc. Mr. D. Nikoloz Bacheishvili.
The Rustavi Ensemble objective is to disseminate the Georgian folk song and dance to a wider public using all available means, including concerts, festivals, radio and TV programs, films and recordings.
The daily work and intense creative activity groups them together so that they appear to share common feelings. The greatest merit of the group is that its members have inherited a shared responsibility and deep knowledge of their ancestors. The craftsmanship and creativity of Erkomaishvili Anzor (art director and founder of the group) Toidze Badri (vocal director) and choreographer Pridon Sulaberidze have played a decisive role in formulating the spirit of Rustavi.
Rustavi brings genuine Georgian polyphonic singing, the richness of their voices, spectacular costumes... The Georgian people preserved a rich variety of folk dances for different purposes (work songs, war, love). Rustavi performs almost all styles of dance of ancient Georgia, accompanied by folk songs and instruments of each province of Georgia as appropriate.
Ensemble Rustavi
Rustavi's creative representations clearly show that Georgians have a great mastery of the art of singing. The ensemble has developed its own style, a surprising phenomenon with respect to intonation, vocalization and singing technique. Of key importance is the selection of singers whose voices have the right quality, character and timbre. Today, Rustavi has more than 50 singers and dancers.
