Letter from the Chairman
On behalf of the Friends of Georgia International Foundation, I am pleased to welcome you to our website, which we hope will contribute to increase your knowledge of our organization as well as Georgia.
The Friends of Georgia International Foundation is a not-for-profit organization devoted to the international promotion and development of Georgia, in the broadest sense, which develops its activities in Georgia as well as overseas. The Foundation is organized and operated pursuant to Law 50/2002, December 26th, and supervised by the Ministry of Culture of Spain. Although it is originally constituted in Spain, I would like to stress the international character of our organization, as its activities are starting to spread all over the world.
Our missions are the international promotion and support of Georgia and its culture; the social, cultural, and economic development of Georgia; and the assistance to the Georgian people. But the most important thing; and the reason for being of our organization are the activities we develop.
Jaime AmoedoIn respect to the international promotion of Georgia and its Culture, we are sponsoring and promoting cultural events such as polyphonic concerts and traditional dance shows, photographic exhibitions, conferences on different subjects by relevant speakers from the political, cultural and economic arenas, donations of literary works and traditional music recordings to foreign libraries and universities, wine tasting seminars, edition of special reports on Georgia in renowned international magazines, and our most ambitious plan, the opening of a Georgia House international network.
In relation to the social, cultural, and economic development of Georgia, we are intensively working to bring to Georgia leaders of the social, cultural, and business worlds, for which we have arranged and participated in over a hundred meetings with public and private Georgian organizations, with the aim of attracting to Georgia foreign investments and transfer of knowledge & technology while facilitating partnerships and collaboration between them. In coordination with the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs through its embassy in Madrid, we have coordinated the first conferences by the both the President and the Primer Minister of Georgia, in Barcelona and Madrid respectively, and are now in the process of sponsoring the first Spanish Trade Mission to Georgia.
With regards to the assistance to the Georgian people, we are working on several projects such as the opening of a school of arts and crafts in Tbilisi to help young people gain the necessary skills to obtain a job, support the development of less favoured communities—especially those most impacted by the war—through our Sponsor-a-Family initiative, reaching agreements with relevant goods and services providers which will offer a special treatment to donors of the Foundation under the Friends of Georgia Club, and providing scholarships to Georgian students.
I would like to express my gratitude to all those wonderful people that support our activities, either through their donations or their collaboration, as we would not be able to do anything without them.
We would like to invite all of you that visit our website to discover this wonderful country and to join up with the efforts that the Friends of Georgia International Foundation is carrying out, as a collaborator, a donor, or simply participating in our activities.
For all this, we invite you to navigate through the contents of these pages and learn more about who we are, what we do, and how you can collaborate.
Welcome to our website!
